- A dongle is a serialized hardware key attached to a USB port on a computer. A dongle is used to limit or lock software access to whomever has the dongle attached to their system through the associated license file. Use of a dongle based license require three components: The physical dongle attached to a USB port.
- BitBox - ECU reflash software BitBox is an emerging software package that allows identification, reading and writing of internal flash memory within control units for various purposes. The reflash software works with the ECU over CAN or K-line using the J2534 Tactrix Openport 2.0 interface.
In a nutshell, a Dongle Key (a.k.a. USB security dongle, security key, etc.) is a small electronic device you can connect to a computer’s USB port that contains a product key or some other protection mechanism required to confirm your access right. More detailed information about what is dongle you may read in our guide.
- Verify that the USB dongle is not plugged in.
- Run Install /b (install USB), or select USB from the Install GUI.
- Insert dongle when prompted.
- {Pre-Vista systems) Let the 'Add New Hardware Wizard' run.
- If any problems occur, view the log file [kl2log.htm] for details. It's located in the same directory as the install.exe.
It is no longer necessary to run an 'uninstall' before reinstalling if an end-user inserts the dongle before installing the KEYLOK driver.

Get activations for only one dongle at a time.
Before you begin
For each product to activate, gather this information:
- Internet access
- Product serial number
- Product key
- The earliest version of the product to activate (when multiple versions of a software product are being installed)
To get activations for a dongle
- Plug the dongle into the computer.
- On theFactoryTalk Activation Manager Home page, click Get New Activations.
- Enter the serial number and product key for each product to activate, and then click Validate Activation. A table lists the products entered. A red exclamation point icon indicates the product has an error. To see details, hover over the icon.
- (optional) For each product in the Validate Activation table, the Product Version column displays the earliest version of the product available. Use this default value or select a different version.
- (optional) To download more than one copy of the product's activation, on the Validate Activation table in the # to Download cell, enter the number of copies.
- Verify that the Binding cell contains the ID of the dongle. The Destination column displays the default location for the activation file, based on the selected binding.
- (optional) To change the destination, click in the Destination cell and select a destination from the list.
- Click Download Activation.
After the activations have downloaded, click Print to save a copy of the activation information.
